Flies have a life span of 30 to 60 days… depending on a lot of things, especially the weather.
Flies go through 4 stages of development. The stages are egg, larva (maggot), pupa (cocoon), and adult. The life cycle looks like this:
The KattleGuard System (U.S. Patent No. 6,230,660 B1, 6,651,589, 6,779,489 B2, 7,194,980 B1, and other U.S. Patents Pending) works on the adult stage of the fly. By applying micro-doses of KattleGuard Insecticide to your cows 3 to 4 milkings a week, there is always a "lethal dose" of KattleGuard present on your cows. When flies land on her, they're history.
Now consider this... after emerging from it's cocoon in the pupa stage and becoming an adult, it takes the adult fly 48 to 72 hours before it's ready to breed. So... if a fly, after emerging, lands on a KattleGuard treated animal within the first two days of its adult life, it is killed before it has a chance to breed and lay eggs. The life cycle of the fly is broken!
When you fire up your KattleGuard System, within as little as 10 days, your dairy will see a dramatic reduction of flies present and very few flies resting and feeding on your livestock.
KattleGuard Insecticide is a patent pending product… and will have full patent protection very shortly. Dairies have tried to use other products… even products with the same active ingredients as KattleGuard. The problem with them is that they soak into the hair and skin of the cow… this deactivates them. Also, they wash off very easily and are very susceptible to UV light degradation from sunlight. So, while they might be 10% cheaper, the only way to make them work is to use them twice as often as KattleGuard… in the end making them nearly twice as expensive to use… and, even then, they won't work as well as KattleGuard.
The KattleGuard System is fully patented so there is really nothing like it on the market (unless someone is infringing on the KattleGuard patents). Seven years of continuous research, development, and refinement have resulted in the finest fly control system on the market today. We continue to refine this technology to ensure the greatest efficiency and reliability possible of both the equipment and the insecticide.
Spraying your dairy once a week does very little good. Think about it... look at the life cycle of the fly. While spraying kills the adult flies that are out and about, it does nothing to eggs, larva, or pupa in the ground. The minute the sprayer leaves, more flies are emerging as adults, pestering your cows, and breeding. There is just no way to achieve low fly populations with premise spraying.
Now, in theory these little wasps are a great idea. And, they do work well when used in conjunction with the KattleGuard… but, by themselves, that's another story. While they will help reduce fly populations, they can not eliminate them… or even come close. Why? The flies breeding cycle is so fast, the flies simply out run the wasps. Period. Besides, they're very expensive for what you get, and labor intensive (therefore expensive) to use.
